It was Keim Time on the Junkies this morning, as nine days out from the NFL Draft, John jumped on with the guys to give his takes on some QB goodness – including ALL of the breadcrumbs dropping that it’s Jayden Daniels locked in at No. 2.
“I can't speak for what he may or may not know but what I do know is he doesn't know for sure,” Keim said of GM Adam Peters’ mindset. “He hasn't said that; most likely signs point to signals, but I think that nobody knows for sure. They don't have to make the decision now, and people made these mistakes throughout the coaching search as well, just assuming what they knew, which was, to be honest, nothing. What people have to learn is that this is a very process-oriented group; that doesn't mean they don't have a strong lean necessarily, but it was always go through each step, and part of that process is going through this week with all the visits, and those are important. Fans wanna know now, but they don't have to know because what difference does it make? What if you settled on a guy a couple weeks ago and then you learn some things during the process thereafter and maybe it goes against your guy, but you'd already settled on him, so you dismiss it, and maybe you make the wrong pick?”
That doesn’t mean they can’t make a decision later in the week after the interviews, but again, don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion for the most part.
“I think you need to go through this process and that's how they operate, but again, just because they haven’t settled on a guy does mean they don't like a certain guy,” Keim said. “But one thing I know with Adam Peters is he will solicit a lot of input, and what I also know about Josh Harris is he wants every piece of information that you can give him about whatever decision you're gonna make. If you went to him and said we're settling on this guy and you can't answer the other questions, he's gonna say you need to do more work. So I think that's part of it.”
And that’s seen perfectly in the Commanders bringing in Michael Penix Jr. for a due-diligence visit because, as Keim said, you never know if a trade offer comes that you can’t refuse, so it’s about investigating all angles.
Take a listen above as Keim also discusses his piece on the strengths and weaknesses of Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, what he did (or didn't) glean from having Dan Quinn on his podcast, and more!
