Would Ken Zampese be 'the worst' OC hire for Commanders?

The Commanders have interviewed a host of candidates for their offensive coordinator vacancy, but the one leading the charge could be coming from within.

According to a bite-sized nugget from Albert Breer in SI on Monday, "A lot of people think Ron Rivera is going to hire quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese to be the Commanders' next offensive coordinator."

The Sports Junkies weren't happy to read about Zampese's lead position and responded to the report in kind.

EB: I think of all the hires, that would be the worst. And it's not a shot against Zampese, it's that you were here for all the nonsense and the lack of productivity. If they hire Zampese, it doesn't mean he's not his own independent guy, and we know his family history – he's a lifelong football guy. It just tells me that Ron wants to be the OC.

Cakes: Right. And it also just smacks of cronyism.

Bish: He doesn't want to have the sexy hire, go outside the team, go out and get a hot name.

JP: It's his M.O. It's the familiar.

EB: It's less about cronyism to me, Cakes. You're just hiring a guy that you can bitch around!

JP: It's what he does. It's what he does with personnel. It's why he brings in all these Panthers players, because he's familiar with them, and now he's bringing in the familiar.

EB: Why does he not interview Greg Roman?

JP: Because he's not familiar with him.

EB: No. Because my guess is he's too alpha. I have no idea!

JP: Although Jack Del Rio I would say is probably an alpha guy.

EB: But he knew Jack.

Jason Bishop — a noted Ashburn socialite — slipped this Baby Bish Bomb into the discussion.

Bish: I was told Joe Brady, who was a failure in Carolina, but he was obviously very good in college. I think he's with the Bills [QBs coach] now. I was told he was interested in the OC job. He was interested in interviewing here and they didn't return his calls.
