The NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis and Craig Hoffman is Team 980's man on the scene. He joined Kevin Sheehan on Wednesday morning to talk about the latest from the combine, including the changes in who attends and what players are doing over the years.

So, what's the buzz as it relates to the three quarterbacks expected to go at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft: USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels and UNC's Drake Maye?

"The general lean is that the Bears are going to go with Caleb at 1," Hoffman said, reiterating a report from NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. "And [Chicag GM] Ryan Poles actually had probably the most interesting of all of the media sessions yesterday when he told the Chicago group of reporters that they're gonna make a decision in the next couple of weeks and they wanna do right by Justin Fields, which means trading him before the league year and free agency starts.

"So we should have some clarity on that if they trade Justin Fields, it means they're staying at one and they're taking a quarterback and we would be smart to guess that that quarterback is going to be Caleb Williams."

For Hoffman, the opinions around the Combine for the Commanders at No. 2 in a battle then between Maye and Daniels lean 80-20 in favor of the former UNC Tar Heel QB over the former LSU Tiger.

But there is a wild card out there who could be a 'late riser in the conversation of a first-round pick' in Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who is scheduled to throw at the Combine this week whereas the other three quarterbacks are not going to perform any tests this week.
