"For me, I have seen a guy who has been described as stubborn, inflexible and I have seen somebody who has been anything but that over the last five weeks. And that's intriguing to me," Kevin Sheehan said to start the conversation about Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
"The offense is different. Not wildly different, but different enough that Sam Howell has trended in the direction of being more consistent than earlier in the year," Sheehan continued. "The sign of a good coach is adjusting to the talent and to what your players do well, I think Bieniemy has done that here over the last month-plus of the season."
Why are we talking about the OC in this way? Because the OC has been at the center of some reports that offensive players would not be inclined to give Bieniemy such a glowing recommendation if he were to be considered to be Washington's next head coach after Ron Rivera is fired at the end of the year.
But while Sheehan has seen some improvements in the Commanders' offense compared to last year – how much that can be attributed to Howell and not Bieniemy is up for debate. And, in fact, there have been a lot of duds by the offense this year.
In the conversation, Sheehan responded to a listener's email pleading for Bieniemy to be the future Commanders head coach and he is in fact unsure whether Bieniemy should be guaranteed the job in Washington. Sheehan also addresses the latest reports and all of the things we don't know. So what does that mean for the new OC's future in Washington? Listen on the audio player above!
