There are still a lot of hang-ups when it comes to getting the proposed RFK 2.0 deal into and through the DC Council’s budget process, even with Council Chair Phil Mendelson potentially looking to strip any language out.
But Commanders minority owner Mark Ein, who joined the Sports Junkies Monday to discuss it, revealed why he’s confident everything will eventually pass: as he has seen himself with Capital One Arena, Nats Park, and Audi Field, stadiums are ‘revenue drivers that revitalize their neighborhoods.’
That said, though, how long can the Commanders wait for the Council to play hardball before they have to consider other options?
“Just back to events, obviously the 2031 Women's World Cup is here, so I think everyone wants to make it happen. I don't want to get into that stuff, but I do legitimately believe everyone is working towards getting this done, and getting it done so it can open in 2030, and that's what we're certainly hoping's gonna happen,” Ein said. “I honestly think the right thing is going to happen, and I think it’s pretty clear that if you listen to people, they aren’t saying they're against it, they just wanna make sure that we were in a good process. I really believe it's gonna happen.”
