What an adventure that was for the Washington Commanders in Seattle in Week 10. But for Michael Phillips and Craig Hoffman, there seems to be less anger about 29-26 last-second loss to the Seahawks than they would expect there to be, especailly considering the defensive meltdown and the more coaching missteps from head coach Ron Rivera.
Why? Well, the most important part of the Washington season – especially after a pair of trade deadline moves to sell – the development of second-year quarterback Sam Howell.
"I know everyone wants to be mad, and we'll get to the mad stuff," Hoffman told Phillips (the conversation gets started around the 1:35 mark on the audio player above), "but this Howell kid seems to still be on track to being real good. And we all agree, in a vacuum, that that's the most important thing [about this season.] Then [Sunday] was a great day."
Phillips said Howell was "amazing" and made a Mahomes-ian throw and made a great throw to score the late touchdown with Washington down a touchdown late. "This kid is exciting and he's the starter for the 2024 season right now, and I think it would take a lot to change my mind on this between now and then," he added.
Hoffman added: "Yeah, it's pretty obvious that he is on-track to being the guy."
