The group – who right now appear to be purchasing the Washington Commanders from Dan Snyder – is led by two local billionaires in Josh Harris and Mitchell Rales. And while the third prominent member of the group, Magic Johnson, is not local, he has ties to the area and is a big addition to the group Michael Wilbon told The Kevin Sheehan Show Monday.
"Magic Johnson knows and loves Washington D.C.," Wilbon told Sheehan. "Magic no stranger to Washington. This is smart. He's excited. You get credibility with your group instantly. You get not some face of Black business and culture and interests, but I would say maybe the most important person in that sphere in the last 25 years, I can easily make the case is Magic Johnson."
"So why wouldn't that work in Washington?" he added.
The longtime Washington Post Sports columnist went on to offer a hearty congratulations to Kevin and Washington football fans for ending their "wandering through the wilderness for the last 25 years."
"It just became untenable," Wilbon said of the Snyder's tenure. "It was run into the ground in a way that I have not seen in any other franchise run into the ground. And the fact the owner has to take exile in Europe. I mean think about that?"
Wilbon and Sheehan began the conversation with a lengthy and illuminating conversation about the great action over the weekend in the NBA playoffs from the artistry of the shot-making in the Sacramento Kings vs. Golden State Warriors opening game, Wilbon putting De'Aaron Fox on his All-NBA First Team over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, whether Ja Morant and the Grizzlies are done in the series vs. LeBron James' Los Angeles Lakers after Game 1.
