William Jackson III, less than two years after signing a big-money deal to come to Washington as a free agent, would now like to leave.

The cornerback is looking for a new home and the Washington Commanders "have engaged in active trade talks" around him, according to a report from NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero.

The move is centered around Jackson preferring to find a defense that plays in a scheme that would better fit his skillset. He is known as a man-corner and Washington's defense is very zone-defense-centric. Interest in acquiring Jackson has been shown from several teams, per the report.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 1 and it appears likely Jackson will be moved "long before then," per the report. If traded Washington will face a salary cap hit, a cap hit of $3 million. He signed in Washington ahead of the 2021 season on a 3-year, $46 million deal.

The news comes after Jackson was removed from the Commanders' loss Sunday to the Titans under disputed circumstances.

After the 21-17 defeat to the Titans, head coach Ron Rivera insinuated to the media Jackson had been benched.

“Well, we just decided to make a change,” Rivera told the media. When asked why, he added, “Because we decided to.”

When speaking with reporters Jackson said he was dealing with a back injury and removed himself from the game.

The next day Rivera acknowledged the back injury but again made it seem it was a coaching decision to bench the cornerback.

"Well, for the most part, we pulled him," Rivera said on Monday. "And he did have a back [issue] because remember he missed the game with the bad back, I believe it was Philadelphia."

Rivera later added: “Well, we pulled him, we’ll leave it at that.”

Jackson, who appeared on the Commanders' injury report ahead of Thursday night's game against the Bears, did not travel with the team to Chicago. And, may have played his final down in Burgundy & Gold.
