Rob Likens talks about coaching Jayden Daniels with Kevin Sheehan

The Washington Commanders have the No. 2 overall pick and are looking at taking a quarterback with likely, either, UNC quarterback Drake Maye or LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daneils.

We all know what kind of player Daniels is on the field – after a stellar saeson with the Tigers in the SEC – but what about him off the field?

To get that kind of information, Kevin Sheehan spoke to Rob Likens, who was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with Arizona State in 2019 when Daniels started 12 games for the Sun Devils. (He would play two more seasons there before finishing his collegiate career with two seasons at LSU.

In that 2019 season, Daniels completed 60.7 percent of his passes (205-for-338) for 2,943 yards for 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He also ran for 355 yards and three scores on 125 attempts.

Likens said he had a "very skinny" Daniels at Arizona State and "man he was a rail, he was 6'3, 160 pounds. Man, he was so skinny I was worried he was gonna get hurt."

But "it didn't take long to realize he was a special dude," and as a freshman, he won the job the first week of practice in the fall.

Likens gets into the a play early on in his first year that made Daniels the starter as a freshman when he looked off a safety for a "wow" play. The full conversation can be heard on the audio player above!
