RUSSELL: Jeremy McNichols on his two-point conversion, Commanders' comeback vs. Eagles

Jeremy McNichols capped the scoring on Sunday with the two-point conversion that made it 36-33, and even with less than 10 ticks left on the clock, it was an important get for the Commanders – you never know what can happen, and a 34-33 lead is much less safe than a field goal difference.

The Eagles almost stopped it, too, but McNichols made the most of his chance and snuck into the end zone to give the Commanders their final edge.

“I just got the ball and saw the end zone, and knew I needed to get in there for my team,” McNichols said. “I can't really take you through the full play, but I got the ball and knew I had to put it in there for my teammates and this organization and finish out the game.”

Washington had about two minutes to get that final touchdown to win it, and once Luke McCaffrey got them the ball near midfield, there was no doubt they’d find a way.

“No. If there’s time on the clock and we have the ball, we’re going down to win and we're gonna put the ball in,” McNichols said. “We've done it before, so we believe in each other and this brotherhood, and we know what we’re capable of. We got the opportunity and we seized the moment and got it done. When you look around, I wanna play for my brother, and I'm gonna give it all for him. We have a bunch of guys up and down this roster that believe; we don't listen to outside noise, we know what we have.”

An amazing finish to a game where they were down 14-0 in the blink of an eye and turned the ball over five times.

“You can't get those plays back, so we got time on the clock, we still have opportunity to win the game, and that's just how we think,” McNichols said. “Let's go make this drive better. We can't fix what's in the past, all we can do is focus on the present and continue to just keep fighting for each other and have fun. It’s hard to win in this league, so you can never take it for granted.”

The 2024 Commanders have won 10 games in a season for the first time since 2012, and now the sights are set on the playoffs – and won’t be thinking about this being a house money season.

“We go into every week knowing we have 17 opportunities guaranteed, and we try to win every single one of them; we wanna go 1-0 every single week and put as many W’s up as we can to try and put ourselves in a position to have the opportunity to get in that tournament and then just see what happens,” McNichols said. “Just give us the opportunity. I don't think we ever go into a season like, ‘hey, we need to go and win a specific number of games.’ We wanna win all of them, so our mindset is we can win all 17, so let’s go do it.”
