Russell: Sam Cosmi is Commanders' biggest Pro Bowl snub

The Commanders have two Pro Bowlers in Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin, and 11 alternates ranging from first to fifth.

You know who isn’t one of those 13 names? Sam Cosmi, and Chris Russell thinks he’s the biggest snub of the other 40 guys kicking around the roster.

“They have the team and then five levels of alternates, and Cosmi is not listed as any of those,” Russell said with disbelief on Thursday. “Tyler Biadasz is, and Nick Allegretti, Brandon Coleman, Andrew Wylie, and Cornelius Lucas are not, and those are all understood. But Cosmi is not listed, and that’s interesting.”

Cosmi has ‘had some moments’ this year, but to say he’s not one of the Top 10 or so guards in the NFC?

“It just shows you different perspectives,” Russell said. “Bill Barnwell of ESPN, who a lot of people respect and like and think knows everything, did his NFL All-Pro Team in advance of Week 18, and at guard he has Joe Thuney – who is now playing left tackle, by the way – of the Chiefs, and Quentin Nelson of the Colts. The second team guards? Elkton Jenkins of the Packers, who is real good, and Cosmi. So he has Cosmi as a Top Four guard this year, whereas Cosmi did not make any of the levels associated with the Pro Bowl.”

Chris isn’t sure exactly what that means, even as we know the Pro Bowl votes and nominations come from different places, but it seems a little weird that one well-respected insider has Cosmi higher than everyone involved in the selection process – especially considering Barnwell’s top two picks are in the AFC.

“It’s interesting to me because everybody thinks Barnwell knows it all, and he's got a lot of love and appreciation for Cosmi,” Rooster said, “whereas the Pro Bowl roster, which I did say the way they go about the process is at least much better than just a strict fan voting, didn't have Cosmi listed at all. So I don't know what you take out of that, but that’s a snub.”
