Kevin Sheehan wonders who was the one team that gave Adam Peters a 'solid offer' for the No. 2 pick

During an appearance on the Commanders’ flagship station Thursday morning, Adam Peters said ‘I’d think you’d be surprised’ that Washington got ‘one solid offer’ for the No. 2 pick, and ‘it didn't even move the needle - you had to move mountains to get us off of Jayden, and I don't think anybody would have given up what we would have taken to get us off of Jayden.’

Interesting to think about, at least to Kevin Sheehan.

“I don't know what they would have taken to move off. What we have learned, if you believe Adam Schefter, is that Drake Maye was not a guy that they wanted,” Kevin said. “JJ McCarthy, I guess, would have potentially been the guy if there was a crazy offer, but they would have had to have felt good about getting McCarthy, at least if you believe Schefter’s reporting that a trade back would have had to include the ability to get McCarthy, and maybe it would have.”

Who was that team, though? Kevin guesses the one that actually got McCarthy.

“Minnesota ended up taking him at 10 overall, and they traded up one spot to do it, so I'm gonna guess that it was Minnesota,” Kevin said. “I don't know that the Raiders probably felt they could give up enough to get up to No. 2. Minnesota was at 11 and had 23 overall in the first round – they were the team that had enough draft capital to offer New England and Washington at least something.”

“I think the Giants are smart enough to know that they're not getting that No. 2 spot so it would have had to be either Minnesota or Vegas,” Denton Day chimed in. “I mean, unless Sean Payton was crazy enough to think he needed to trade up to two for Bo Nix, I can only think of Vegas and Minnesota.”

No way, Kevin agreed, that Washington would let New York ahead of them that high, although they did trade No. 40 to Philly for 50 and 53, and Kevin understands people being critical of that.

“I hear you on that, but it really depends on the value you got back, and it was marginal positive value for Washington,” he said. “It kind of fit most of the draft chart evaluations, maybe they did a little bit better than some of the draft chart pick values, but you gave Philly a chance to draft one of the more discussed defensive players in the draft in Cooper DeJean, and you gave Philly their second corner in two rounds.”
