In reacting to the firing of defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, The Sports Junkies agreed that the state of the Commanders defense wasn’t all on Del Rio, but something had to be done.

“Any time you pour that amount of draft picks and capital, and re-signing Allen and Payne to monster deals, and you’re last in the league in defense, there has to be a scapegoat,” JP said. “There has to be a fall guy. You just can’t allow it to continue.

“The secondary is a mess,” EB added. “It’s just a full-blown embarrassment all the way around. It was so embarrassing that the Cowboys stuffed turkey legs in the Salvation Army kettles all over the field, knowing the bloodbath was happening. They knew it was coming…it was a national humiliation for the Commanders.”

But EB also doesn’t think the coaching change will lead to much better results against the high-powered Dolphins offense next weekend.

“I personally don’t think it’s gonna make a difference,” EB said. “I don’t think it leads to the Commanders holding the Dolphins to 14-20 points.”

Ron Rivera told reporters on Friday that he approached Josh Harris with the idea to move on from Del Rio, but Bishop wouldn’t be surprised if it was a mandate from above.

“Josh probably said, ‘You gotta make a move,’” Bish said.
