The Washington Commanders selected OT Josh Conerly Jr. in Round 1 Thursday night and CB Trey Amos in Round 2 Friday night, and they entered Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft with three more picks.
Take a look below at some capsule profiles of the players Washington selected on Day 3:
ROUND 4, PICK NO. 128 OVERALL: WR Jaylin Lane, VA Tech
Lane, whose WR Coach Fontel Mines joined Lynnell & Denton on our air Saturday after the pick (a clip you can hear above), could step in and be a force in the return game right away. He was a two-time All-Conference USA selection as a returner at Middle Tennessee State in 2021-22, and he had 24 punt returns for 245 yards and a touchdown for the Hokies last year in being named Third Team All-ACC return specialist.
As a receiver, Lane led the Hokies in receptions in both 2023 and 2024, with 41 and 38, respectively, and had a total of 1,004 total yards and eight touchdowns.
ROUND 6, PICK NO. 205 OVERALL: LB Kain Medrano, UCLA
Medrano, a sixth-year player, was Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 in 2023, and then Third Team All-Big Ten selection in the Bruins’ first year in the conference. He started all 25 games over his final two seasons, and last year, he had 72 tackles (11 for loss), 1.5 sacks, two INT (one returned for a TD), four pass breakups, and a team-high three forced fumbles.
His 4.46 40-yard dash at the Combine was fastest among linebackers, but his NFL.com Draft Profile noted that, at 6-foot-3 and 222 pounds, his ‘long, lean frame is more reminiscent of a strong safety than a linebacker,’ and ‘he will need to stand out on special teams and as a dime linebacker to offer value as an undersized OLB.’
ROUND 7, PICK NO. 245 OVERALL: RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Arizona
Merritt, a sixth-year player, appeared in just one game for the Wildcats last year due to eligibility issues, but did log 106 yards and a touchdown in that game, and was MVP of the East-West Shrine Bowl after rushing for 97 yards and two scores.
He started his career at Alabama State, rushing for 1,164 yards and 13 touchdowns in four years with the Hornets. He transferred to New Mexico in 2023 and was named Second Team All-Mountain West after rushing for 1,190 yards and 17 touchdowns.
