The Washington Commanders sent as many as seven people to attend Pitt's pro day, featuring quarterback Kenny Pickett, on Monday afternoon, according to Nicki Jhabvala.
QBs coach Ken Zampese was reportedly among the Commanders attendees.
From a scouting perspective, it could be as simple as the organization doing its due diligence ahead of the draft, where the Commanders will be picking 11th overall. Regardless, it should certainly fuel speculation as Washington's attendance comes less than two weeks after trading for Carson Wentz.
Pickett is among several quarterbacks with the potential to go in the first two rounds of the draft, in a class that includes no clear-cut favorite as the top QB. Also vying to be the first at their position off the board: Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Malik Willis (Liberty) and Sam Howell (North Carolina).
Pickett assuaged some concerns about his hand size, measuring in at an eighth of an inch longer on Monday.
Wentz's contract gives Washington options beyond 2022, which certainly leaves open the possibility of the Commanders drafting a quarterback with a plan to bring him along slowly. Although, paying Wentz $28 million this year, it seems unlikely that Washington would immediately undermine their own trade by selecting a quarterback in the first round.
It's also certainly possible Washington staffers are there to scout other Pitt prospects ahead of the draft, although that wouldn't explain Zampese's attendance.
