The Washington Football Team activated Curtis Samuel from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and released three players on Thursday, including third-year receiver Kelvin Harmon. Cornerback Chris Miller and running back Lamar Miller were also released.
Harmon, 24, initially showed promise as a sixth-round pick in 2019 — catching 30 passes for 365 yards in his rookie season — but missed all of his sophomore season after suffering an ACL tear ahead of training camp in 2020.
The timing of Sunday's releases are likely attributed to the looming roster cutdowns, as Washington's roster — currently at 87 players after today's cuts — needs to be cut down to 85 players by Tuesday. Washington needs to be down to 80 players the following Tuesday (8/24) and then the final roster cutdown to 53 arrives Tuesday, Aug. 31.
Harmon becomes a casualty of the most loaded position group on Washington's roster, which still has 11 other wide receivers after his release.
Samuel's return marks his first appearance at practice since early June, when he suffered a groin injury during OTAs that has kept him out until now. Samuel passed a physical before returning to the practice field on Sunday. He began training camp on the PUP list.
Washington claimed Chris Miller off waivers after he was released by Arizona in May. He was originally an undrafted free agent out of Baylor in 2020.
Lamar Miller, 30, was initially signed by Washington off Chicago's practice squad last December and later re-signed with the Football Team in March of this year.
