The Washington Football Team was dealt yet another blow on Wednesday morning.
Montez Sweat, who was expected to return from the IR this week after fracturing his jaw, is now out for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys because he has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced
Because Sweat is believed to still be unvaccinated, he is to miss at least 10 days, which means he may be able to return for Week 15 against the Eagles if he clears all protocols, but he will not be able to practice with the team. But there is the possibility he misses two additional games after recovering from his injury this week.
When asked about the team bringing in an expert to encourage players to get the Covid-19 vaccine, Sweat said in June, "I'm not a fan of it. I probably won't get vaccinated until I get more facts and all of that type of stuff. But no, I'm not a fan of it at all."
And when asked what's behind his hesitation to get vaccinated, Sweat replied, "I mean, I haven't caught covid yet, so I don't see me treating covid until I actually get covid."
Washington is already dealing with a handful of injuries, having placed tight end Logan Thomas on the injured reserve with a knee injury ending his 2021 season and running back J.D. McKissic and safety Landon Collins still questionable to return this week as well.
Sweat’s return would have been a big boost for Washington, which is also without Chase Young who tore his ACL earlier this season.
Washington has stormed back into the playoff picture with four straight wins and is currently 6-6 and hold the No. 6 seed in the NFC.
The Cowboys remain two games ahead of them in the NFC East, making Sunday’s game a pivotal one for Washington’s chances at the division.
