The Washington Commanders still play in Maryland and train in Virginia, but on the day of the team's rebranding, they were welcomed to Washington D.C. by the top commander of the area: the Commander in Chief.
President Joe Biden tweeted a picture of his dog Commander, a five-month-old German Shepherd puppy, standing on the South Lawn of the White House, soon after the unveiling of the football team's new name and uniform unveiling at FedEx Field.
The four-legged Commander was a birthday gift to the President from his brother James Biden and sister-in-law Sara Biden. He made his debut in December, which was likely after the football team had already decided on the name Commanders.

Soon after POTUS' tweet, Washington head coach Ron Rivera, a man who is fond of spending quality time with his dogs, Tahoe and Sierra, invited Commander to visit Washington's other Commanders at practice any time.
And the team let Biden now some merch may be headed their way. But it is unlikely First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, a Philadelphia Eagles fan, will allow any into the White House.
