(670 The Score) White Sox ace Lucas Giolito is headed for the injured list, manager Tony La Russa told reporters Saturday, one day after Giolito exited his start early due to abdominal tightness on his left side.

Giolito is expected to miss at least two starts, La Russa said. Giolito was dominant before leaving against the Tigers on Friday, throwing four scoreless innings and allowing one hit while striking out six and walking two. The White Sox eventually lost the game 5-4 as the bullpen imploded late.

"I felt like a little tweak in my lower left abdomen," Giolito said Saturday, according to the Athletic. "And we get random little aches and pains while we’re throwing that you kind of just disregard. So I immediately disregarded it. The next pitch, same. Next pitch, same. Just didn’t want to go away, so I had to go and say something.”

Giolito, 27, posted a 3.53 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 31 starts in 2021.
