Washington Wizards trade down, select Illinois wing Will Riley with No. 21 pick in 2025 NBA Draft

The Wizards traded down with their second first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, moving down from No. 18 to No. 21 and netting Illinois wing Will Riley.

According to Shams Charania, Washington sent the No. 18 pick – where they selected Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. – to Utah for No. 21, No. 43 in the second round, and second-round picks in 2031 and 2032.

Riley, 19, is from Canada but played in high school in Pennsylvania ahead of one season with the Illini, where he was the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. He did start nine of 33 games, and averaged 12.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 25.7 minutes per game, on .432/.326/.724 shooting.

The Wiz also took Texas SG Tre Johnson at No. 6, and now, they will make one more selection of their own at No. 43. They will also make a second-round pick at No. 40, but that pick is agreed to be sent to New Orleans as part of the Jordan Poole-C.J. McCollum deal, which was announced Tuesday but cannot be finalized until July 6.
