Zach Edey to the Wizards?
The 7-foot-4 Canadian won back-to-back Player of the Year Awards, led Purdue to the National Title Game, and scored more points in this year’s NCAA Tournament than all but one man had ever scored in a single March Madness – but his NBA Draft stock may not be that great, it seems.
Edey may not be a first-round pick, but the Wizards will be picking somewhere between 33 and 40 in the second round, and if Edey is there?
“If I've got a late-first or early-second round pick and Zach Edey is there, I'm taking him,” Chris Russell said. “He’s 7-foot-4, a defensive presence because of wingspan, and has hustled and made himself consistently, year-in and year-out, better offensively and defensively at Purdue in every way. I do not care that he doesn't shoot threes; that's a you problem if you don't think he fits into the modern NBA.”
Doc Walker agreed, and Rooster continued.
“I would love the Wizards to grab a guy like that, because I know if I'm not asking him to play 35 minutes, if I'm not asking him to score 25 points a game and be my No. 1 option and the end-all, be-all like he pretty much was at Purdue for the most part, then I can carve out a really nice role for Zach Edey,” Chris said. “I think he's the type of guy that's always gonna work his ass off to get better, as we saw for four years at Purdue, so hell yeah I would want him on my NBA team, and I don't give a rat's ass whether he fits in today's modern NBA, because you know what? Today's modern NBA largely sucks.”
Rant over, and Doc replied:
“All four of our teams in DC are in reconstruction, they’re building, blending young and old. So if you get a piece, this big, strong, durable, athletic and getting better, I think it goes with the current tide to where the Wizards are going,” Doc said. “I'm pleased with where they are; even though they're not winning, I see progress, and he would be a stepping stone in that.”
