Kristaps Porzingis still hears some boos at Madison Square Garden, and he had some fun with those who were jeering down the stretch of the Wizards’ wire-to-wire win over the Knicks on Wednesday night.
After Porzingis fouled out with just over a minute left, the former top-five Knicks draft pick smiled on his way to the bench and pointed to the scoreboard, which showed Washington leading by nine.
Porzingis finished with 22 points on 6-for-17 from the floor (4-for-9 from three) and added 11 rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes to help the Wizards to a relatively easy win against his former team, which contains a fanbase that still has some frustration over how he left.
But Porzingis notes that it has improved continuously over time, to the point where he can have some fun with the fans like he did on Wednesday.
“It was better,” Porzingis said. “It was less booing.
“I think some fans are maybe easing up on me now at this point. I got a lot of support today. I saw a lot of my jerseys and kids and everybody were more wanting to give me a high five and telling me to come back to New York, things like that. It was cool to see some support.”
