Last week was busy, busy, busy for the Washington Wizards. A trio of trades, a pair of draft picks, and near-total reshuffling of the roster. Not bad for the first few weeks of the new regime of Michael Winger and Will Dawkins.
After catching his breath from reporting on all the happenings last week, Josh Robbins of The Athletic joined Scott Jackson (in for Craig Hoffman) to talk about some new trade rumors involving the Wizards and the Minnesota Timberwolves and break down where Washington stands headed into the season and any moves they may make during this big rebuilding summer.
According to Robbins and The Athletic, the Timberwolves are looking to add some guard depth and are speaking with the Wizards about trading for either Monte Morris or Delon Wright. However, if you are a Washington fan and hoping for a good return right now, Robbins says to pump those breaks.
"I'm not sure how large any sort of return would be if and when the Wizards trade any of their current point guards," he told Jackson on The Team 980. "I suspect that with someone such as Tyus Jones and Monte Morris, the return might be larger down the line, closer to the trade deadline if there is a contending team out there that, heaven forbid, should have a significant injury to its first string point guard. Perhaps a contender would like to enter the season with more depth. Right now there's no traction to those talks [between Minnesota and Washington]."
Robbins does add that the Wizards, due to a logjam at point guard and with Jordan Poole who is a combo guard, will get more calls from teams looking to add a point guard, especially with some decent ones on offer.
Jackson and Robbins then get into the 180-degree turnaround the new administration has made and what moves might still be on the horizon for Winger and Dawkins, what might happen to Kyle Kuzma and some insight on the Wizards' first-round pick Bilal Coulibaly. Listen on the player above!
