After winning 10 of their last 11 games, the Phillies’ bandwagon is getting crowded with new fans coming out of the woodwork including former NFL receiver Chad Johnson, who attended Monday night’s home game against the Marlins, courtesy of Bryce Harper. He seemed to have a pretty good time too, signing autographs for fans, meeting the Phillie Phanatic and even hanging out with Marlins slugger Jazz Chisholm before the game.
The Phillies rolled out the red carpet for their guest of honor, giving Johnson a tour of the facility and some of the best seats in the house. The 44-year-old wore a powder-blue Harper jersey to the stadium, enjoying the view from behind home plate.
Marlins fans may see this as a betrayal of sorts—Johnson is from Miami and continues to live there when he’s not training for a fight (he lost his boxing debut last summer as the undercard to Logan Paul’s exhibition with undefeated world champion Floyd Mayweather). Regardless, Ochocinco seemed to enjoy his first Phillies game, taking full advantage of the park’s amenities including in-seat wait service.
Now that he’s been to Citizens Bank Park, what’s next on Johnson’s Philly bucket list? The former Bengal is open to suggestions, though we know at least one Philly hot spot he won’t be going to.
After having their nine-game winning streak snapped Sunday against the Diamondbacks, the Phillies bounced back with a 3-2 victory in Monday’s series opener, conquering the Marlins on a walk-off, ninth-inning double by Rhys Hoskins.
