Most licensed child care centers in Maryland closed on Friday at the end of their business day. Day care services for the children of friends, neighbors and families is still permitted, providing there are fewer than five children. Licensed centers can request approval from the state to re-open, possibly as early as Monday, but those centers must conduct a thorough cleaning and can accept only the children of "essential workers."
Additionally, there are 1,2000 slots in state-funded child care programs that were recently announced and will remain open.
