Spotlight On Maryland-American Heart Association-Maryland

This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Julie Fahey, Director Heart Walk, American Heart Association, Baltimore & Greater Maryland and Tom Bowman, Giving Society Ambassador, American Heart Association Greater Maryland Board of Directors, to talk about the Greater Maryland Heart Walk on Saturday, October 10th at Camden Yards Sports Complex. Tom is also a survivor with a family history of heart disease, and has participated in the Heart Walk for nearly 30 years.

The six cardiologists who founded the American Heart Association in 1924 would be amazed. From humble beginnings, the American Heart Association has grown into the nation's oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Money raised from the Heart Walk funds groundbreaking cardiovascular and stroke research. The American Heart Association is the largest non-government funder of this research, more than $6 billion dollars over the years that supports institutions like University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins and Kennedy Krieger Institute advancing treatments, prevention, and lifesaving discoveries and supports community health initiatives and education.
