Last week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by Sue Elias, CEO at Moveable Feast, to talk about their partnership with the Maryland Department of Health to launch a new medically tailored meal program for Marylanders with diabetes also facing food insecurity through a brand new program in partnership with its Washington, DC counterpart Food & Friends. The program, which aims to help improve health outcomes and cost of care, will deliver approximately 1 million meals to over 3.000 individuals over the next two years.
Moveable Feast is a local Baltimore nonprofit serving medically tailored meals to those facing food insecurity while living with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and HIV. The Medically Tailored Meals Program in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health is a free, six-month service available to Marylanders with diabetes in six counties: Prince George's, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Dorchester, Sommerset, and Alleghany. The state selected diabetes as it is an epidemic in Maryland with more than 12% of Marylanders living with diabetes-approximately 595,000 adults.
