This week on Spotlight on Maryland, we spoke with Larry Abramson, Board Member from The National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware. Larry shared his experience with a rare form of kidney disease known as FSGS. Many people don’t realize they are at risk for kidney disease; it’s often overlooked, but 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are at risk. Kidney disease is the 10th leading cause of death nationwide.

Anyone can get chronic kidney disease at any age. However, some people are more likely than others to develop kidney disease. Risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure, a family history of kidney failure and older age. Chronic kidney disease is also more common in African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and American Indians.

Early detection can help you successfully treat kidney disease. It is never too late to take care of your health. Getting tested for kidney disease is quick and easy. Knowledge is power. Learn about your kidneys to stay healthy and be there for your family and community. You are in control to prevent the disease from developing or to help delay its evolution.

Baltimore’s premier food and beverage event is back as an in-person event!
