This week on Spotlight On Maryland, Gina Crash was joined in studio by F. T. Burden, Chief Executive Officer of Springboard Community Services to talk about their mission, how they are recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month and their new Mental Health Access Project they're launching in response to recent Federal changes.

Springboard has been serving Maryland communities and thousands of individuals and families each year since 1849 working across behavioral health, housing, family violence services, case management and financial well being. F. T. Burden has served as CEO since 2015 and he looks back on some of the most significant changes and milestones during his leadership.

Springboard is recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month. This year's theme is "More Good Days, Together." Many people think of mental health as separate from housing, financial stability, or family safety. Springboard approaches mental wellness as part of whole-person care.

With recent Federal changes-including Medicare recertification requirements, ACA marketplace disruptions and reductions in support like SNAP benefits, many are losing access to the mental health services they depend on. Springboard is launching a new Mental Health Access Project in response to these challenges. They're also creating a flexible Mental Health Fund to help cover therapy sessions during coverage gaps. Even a short interruption in care can be dangerous to someone in recovery.
