It was an incredible September for Amira Hondras, a 7th grader at National Teachers Academy in the South Loop. She became the first girl selected to the Chicago White Sox’s Amateur City Elite (ACE) travel team in its history!
The team was created in 2007 to provide travel baseball opportunities for under-served and resourced Chicago neighborhoods, and to increase baseball participation among inner-city youth.
Amira, 12 years old, is a utility player (all bases and positions) who can also pitch and catch. In the ACE program's history, youth involvement has led to hundreds of college baseball scholarships for talented players who otherwise wouldn’t be in the game.
As to her love of baseball, her parents remember her memorizing every position & teammate on her brother’s teams (she's cheered for the White Sox since she was 2).
