The Chicago Bears Hall of Famer and former linebacker, Brain Urlacher, recently joined a star-studded group bidding to buy the New York Mets.
The full group consists of Urlacher along with fellow NFL players Travis Kelce and DeMarco Murray, and the power couple themselves: Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez. Other investors include former offensive lineman Joe Thomas, former NBA All-Star Bradley Beal, and Denver Nuggets center Mason Plumlee.
When asked about joining the high profile group, Urlacher told ESPN, "Being a former athlete and having a chance to be a part of a group trying to purchase a professional team, it's pretty cool."
The Rodriguez-Lopez group has already submitted an initial bid of $1.7 billion to buy the baseball team.
Their competition is currently Steve Cohen, hedge fund billionaire, who has made the top bid so far with $2 billion.
A-Rod and J.Lo have contributed $300 million of their own money and are being backed by the rest of their investors.
Both groups are currently in a waiting period until MLB commissioner Rob Manfred gives word regarding the next steps in the process.
