The Chicago Animal Care and Control just announced their brand new Doggie Day Out Program!

The program works similarly to a library where one can 'rent' out a dog for the day and hang out with them! The goal is to help Day Out Fosters fall in love with the dogs and hopefully help them find their forever home. The Doggie Day Out program will help to relieve the stress that many dogs feel living in a shelter environment. It allows the dogs time to bond with interested patrons outside of the shelter walls, which is important when deciding on adopting a new pet.

Dogs can go out any day of the week for up to 5 hours at a time, from 11 am to 4 pm. Day Out Fosters must make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance by emailing CACCFoster@cityofchicago.org (Monday through Friday 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.)

There are a few rules that Day Out Fosters have to follow, though.

  • The dog must be kept securely on the leash at all times and no one other than the approved foster may handle the dog.
  • Interactions with other dogs and animals should be avoided, and dogs cannot be taken to dog parks, dog beaches or other off-leash, dog-friendly areas.

Come check out the brand new Doggie Day Out Program at the Chicago Animal Care and Control located at 2741 S. Western Avenue in Chicago, Illinois!
