The Dixie Chicks are currently on their first press tour in 14 years with the release of their new single 'Gaslighter.'
After their fire igniting performance, the group sat down with Ellen to discuss how it feels to be one of the first victims of 'cancel culture,' after the lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President George W. Bush while on tour in London on the eve of the Iraq war. After her comments, the band was blacklisted in the industry.
“What we said back then — or what I said back then — would not even be a thing today, because it was really mild compared to what people say today,” Maines told DeGeneres. “So on the one hand, everyone has this platform where they can say whatever they wanna say, but on the other hand, this platform can move really quickly and ruin people’s lives.”
The trio went on the explain the backlash they received, along with the desire to stay home and raise their kids led to their long hiatus.
The Dixie Chicks will release their first album since 2006 on May 1st and will be announcing a tour very soon!
