The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is coming back, but with a dramatic twist.
The beloved 90s sitcom will be remade into an hour-long drama titled Bel-Air, but still focus on Will Smith's character as he leaves his life in Philly to live with his aunt and uncle in the ritzy part of California.

The series will keep the same characters as the original, but tell a modern-day story about navigating life as a black man in America exploring such issues as police brutality, gang crime, and wealth inequality.

The project will be created by Will Smith's production company, Westbrook Studios, with a partnership with Universal Television. No release date for the series has been set as Smith is still trying to sell it to a few streaming platforms. Currently, Netflix, Peacock, HBO Max, Amazon, and Apple are all interested.

Some of the original creators will serve as executive producers on the remake as well.

When asked how the story will be told, a representative for Universal Television explained, "With a reimagined version, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions, and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show."

No actors have been announced yet as being tied to the project, looks like we all will have to wait and see.

BUT if you missed it, the original cast had a Zoom reunion a few months ago while in quarantine!

They also did an amazing tribute to James Avery, who played Uncle Phil and unfortunately, passed away in 2013.
