David Patrick and Sarah Rose Patrick had to improvise after giving birth right outside in the Louisville Baptist Health Hospital parking lot when their baby arrived a week before his due date.

Around 1 am on May 9th, Sarah woke with painful contractions, and the two headed to the hospital only to find that the doors to the labor and delivery ward were locked. David told Sarah they needed to go back into the car and head to the emergency room because that part of the hospital will surely be open.

On the way back to the car, Sarah's water broke. David called 911 in the parking lot and with the help of the dispatcher, he was able to help his wife deliver their son.

Navi Bond Patrick was born in the backseat of the car and with no proper medical care or way to cut the umbilical cord, David quickly decided to use the face mask he was wearing. He rolled it up tightly like a tortilla, then tied a knot around the umbilical cord.

A few minutes after the birth the ambulance arrived to take the new family to the hospital.

Although their son's birth did not go exactly as planned, all three family members are safe and healthy and doing really well!
