Like most businesses, when the pandemic began and the lockdown was ordered Elda De La Rosa of De La Rosa Designs, a local bridal shop in the Gold Coast, was scared about how she would continue to make money and survive.
The wedding industry came to a screeching halt, which hurt De La Rosa tremendously because normally the shop is extremely busy during the spring and summer season.
Her bridal shop has been opened since 2000 and she has made a great reputation for having amazing couture debutante as well as mother of the bride dresses. Her debutante dresses, especially, have become a hit on Chicago's social scene.
De La Rosa, a single mother, had to think quickly once the stay at home order went into effect as to how she would save her business. She immediately turned to the competitive field of mask making to stay afloat.
At first, she felt bad profiting big from a pandemic, but after she had to let go of her entire staff, she knew mask making was the route she needed to take. She began sewing 400 masks a week AND began donating a mask for every order that came in.
De La Rosa takes pride in her masks and each one is carefully and artistically crafted. Her best seller is the City of Chicago’s flag mask, made with hearts in place of the stars.
The designer masks are being sold for $22 each and remember each mask order means one mask gets donated to an essential worker! #FindingTheGood
