The term "Friday Night Lights" has taken on a new meaning during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
High schools all over the Chicagoland area have been turning on their football stadium lights to pay tribute to those helping out on the front lines during the outbreak.
The effort is called #LightsfortheFight and involves high schools turning on the lights on their campus or their football field at 8 PM on Friday night for 20 minutes. It is meant as a salute to our first responders including police officers and firefighters along with healthcare workers such as doctors and nurses for all their work battling the pandemic.
A number of local high schools including Mount Carmel, St. Rita, Marian Central, Brother Rice, and Joliet Catholic participated last weekend. Let's all work together to get as many schools as possible to turn on their lights and take part in this new initiative to honor our essential workers!
