Mount Carmel's Ed Howard Drafted to Chicago Cubs in First Round

Ed Howard, MLB Draft, Chicago Cubs, Mount Caramel, Local, Baseball

Similar to Cole Kmet when he was drafted by the Chicago Bears a few months ago, Ed Howard is now living out every young baseball player's fantasy: getting drafted by his hometown/city's team.

Howard recently graduated from Mount Carmel High School and was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 16th pick in the MLB Draft.

Even though Howard grew up a White Sox fan, it seems like he has no issue switching allegiances.

Howard is the Cubs' first high school player selected in the first round since the team drafted Albert Almora in 2012.

Unfortunately, Howard's senior baseball season along with prom and graduation were taken away from him due to the coronavirus. but draft night will be a night he will never forget. He said it was a surreal moment and a day he was been training for his entire life.

Last year as a junior Howard batted .421 with 11 doubles, four triples, and three homers in 35 games as a star shortstop.

He has already committed to the University of Oklahoma and has until August 1st to decide if he will sign with the Cubs or first earn his degree and play as a Sooner.

All of the Chicagoland area is proud of Howard and cannot wait to see where his skills take him!
