Navy Pier has been one of Chicago's main tourist attractions for years with the iconic Ferris Wheel, decadent restaurants, super cool atrium, multiple shops, and the Children's Museum.
Many tourists flock to the lakefront to hang out there for the day in any season, but especially in summer, with boat tours leaving from the docks, BUT unfortunately, COVID-19 might make the attraction close down for the second time this year.
As if the virus isn't already taking enough from our summer, it might force Navy Pier to shut down again.
The attraction was one of the first places to reopen in Chicago after the stay at home order was lifted, but with the lack of tourists and revenue, business is really struggling.
While some shops and restaurants have reopened with new guidelines and procedures, other places have remained closed such as the Ferris Wheel, which is one of the biggest moneymakers at the Pier.
Both the Children's Museum and iMax theater located inside have also remained closed, and attendance is down 85-80%, causing Navy Pier to lose around $20 million for the season.
The Pier has already laid off about two dozen people and also cut many employee's salaries to help combat the loss of income, but it is still not enough.
No official decision has been made regarding another shutdown, an announcement will hopefully be coming in the next few weeks, but in order to preserve the Pier for many more years to come, a closing looks to be in the foreseeable future.
