Ahh yes, Nickelback, the band America loves to hate on for no actual reason, released a very guitar-heavy cover of Charlie Daniels' famous 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' on Friday.
The band changed the song, though, and in the new version, Johnny is not a fiddle player, but instead an electric guitar prodigy. The song includes a battling guitar duel, instead of a fiddle one, which has classic country fans angry.
Apparently the band has had the cover recorded for years and decided to release it now in memory of Daniels who passed away last month. When asked about the cover, frontman Chad Kroeger, said, "A few years ago we recorded a take of ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia' during a studio session with our good friend Dave Martone. It was a fun song to tackle and brought back so many good memories for us all. When Charlie Daniels passed last month, the world lost a music icon. We hope our version will bring half as much joy as his did for us and so many others."
Besides trading in the fiddle for a guitar, the band also added an F word to the lyrics, so just as a warning you will hear, "Let me show you how the f— it’s done."
Fans of Nickelback are LOVING the metal heavy cover, whereas country fans might not feel the same, but take a listen for yourself.
Nickelback began teasing the new release last week on social media with nondescript clues and fans were hoping for a new album. That could still be a possibility later in the year, but for now, they just released this new take on a classic.
