Johnny Martin, 13, has spent almost every weekday for the last year at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago for soft cell cancer chemotherapy treatment.
The rare form of cancer has been very taxing on the teenager's body and mental health. Along with chemotherapy, he also underwent a 26-hour surgery to completely remove the tumors growing in his chest.
His mother did not even know if he would pull through after the strenuous operation.
During his chemo treatments and hospital visits, he found solace in the dog park that he could view from his window. Watching the dogs play and run around helped Martin take his mind off the horrible disease he was fighting. He expressed that one day he wanted a 'dream corgi' of his own. Actually that was all he ended up talking about for weeks.
One of the social workers at Lurie's knew how much the dog would mean to Martin and got in touch with the Little Wish Foundation, a nonprofit that brings children joy amid their cancer battles. The nonprofit made all Martin's dreams come true when they delivered a black and white corgi to him as he was leaving the hospital with his family.
Martin was thrilled to get his own dream dog!
It has been reported that while he is still undergoing chemo to make sure the tumors do not grow back, as of a month ago, Martin is completely cancer-free!!
He is so excited to celebrate that accomplishment with his new corgi! #GoodVibes
