Emily Zamourka became famous this week after a video fo her singing on the subway platform went viral.
The Los Angeles Police Department stumbled upon the homeless woman and began recording her singing...no one expected what happened next.
The internet immediately fell in love with the 52-year-old, who became homeless after a run of bad luck. She was a classically trained violinist and piansit that made her living as a street performer. Unfortunately, a man destroyed her violin three years ago and then she suffered a wrist injury that kept her from playing. With no way to make an income, Zamourka was forced to live on the streets.
She then began sleeping on pieces of cardboard in parking lots and singing in the subway because it made her feel like she was performing on a stage.
After the LAPD shared the video it quickly went viral and now has been viewed over 800,000 times!
Someone started a GoFundMe page that has raised close to $50,000 to help get Zamourka, who is now known as the 'Subway Suprano' off the streets.
Los Angeles Councilmember Joe Buscaino said that his office is working to find housing for Zamourka. He also said that she has agreed to perform on Saturday at an event hosted by the Little Italy of Los Angeles Association!
It was just announced that Zamourka was offered a record deal on Silver Blue Records! It's amazing what one little video can do! #GoodVibes
