The charges against Jussie Smollett may have been dropped (to Chicagoans' dismay) but the fallout on the set of 'Empire' from the actor's false police report has not.
'Empire' has officially been renewed for Season 6, but whether or not Jussie Smollett, and consequently his character Jamal Lyon, will return to the show hasn't been determined.
A statement from 20th Century Fox stated, "By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett's option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire."

Jussie Smollett had his own statement to share regarding the news. His rep released the following:
"We've been told Jussie will not be on Empire in the beginning of the season but he appreciates they have extended his contract to keep Jamal's future open."
