The country star took to Instagram to reveal the devastating news that his youngest son, River Kelly Smith, passed away.
"I have to deliver unthinkable news. We've lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor's best efforts, he was unable to be revived."
The singer did not elaborate on what happened, but he did say he and his wife, Amber, will donate River's organs to give other kids a second chance at life.
"Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father," he wrote.
The family is asking for donations to the Dell Children's Medical Center in River's name in lieu of flowers or gifts.
Understandably, he is canceling his performance at Hot Country Nights in Kansas City tonight.
