Evanston's "Gyros Planet & Tacqueria," run by Erika Castro & her husband Pablo, has given away over 25,000 meals (!) in the last twelve months to residents who needed a little extra help during the pandemic.
That's incredible, especially because Erika told Heidi Stevens at the Chicago Tribune that more than 50% of their business was lost last March when Evanston Township High School moved to remote learning (no more students or teacher purchases).
With the losses piling up, they told their fans on socials this week that they were closing permanently tomorrow. They couldn't take the $ losses anymore.
Once the news got out of the restaurant's fate, the folks behind @Dear_Evanston set up a GoFund me just yesterday and it's already reached their $30,000 goal (!).
Now the owners get to keep their dream alive a little longer >>>>
