DUPAGE COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people are facing charges after allegedly leading DuPage County police on separate high-speed chases over the weekend.
Prosecutors said a 17-year-old from Gilberts led police in Naperville on a 115 mph chase early Saturday morning. The teen allegedly crashed his car into squad cars and an electric box before the chase ended in DeKalb County.
37-year-old Dexter Williams of Chicago, prosecutors said, led Lombard Police in a chase that reached a speed of 100 mph. He then crashed into a light pole early Saturday at Ogden and Western in Chicago.
Police said after searching the man's vehicle they found four catalytic convertors and various weapons.
“Last year, DuPage County saw a significant increase in the numbers of people who attempted to flee from police instead of pulling over,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “With the weather getting nicer and people out traveling more, law enforcement in DuPage County is determined to not have a repeat of the epidemic of fleeing and eluding we saw last year.”
