CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The bond for two men charged with opening fire at the Oakbrook Center mall last week has been set at $1 million.
Tyran Williams, 32, is charged with five counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, Oak Brook police said.
Steve Lane, 29, is charged with aggravated battery, four counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
On Dec. 23, two men began shooting at each other near Oakbrook Center’s Ann Taylor store, then ran into a Nordstrom store close by, according to police. Four people were struck by the gunfire, including one of the suspected shooters, police said. All were expected to survive.
Stores were locked down immediately after the shooting, police said. Hours later, frightened shoppers trickled out of the mall and recalled a frantic search for safety.
“The allegations that these two men opened fire in a crowded mall of between fifteen to twenty thousand people, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year are evidence of an unconscionable degree of violence and a complete and utter disregard for public safety,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
“Make no mistake, in DuPage County public safety is our top priority and anyone who commits this type of violent crime in DuPage County will be apprehended, charged and, if found guilty, face a significant amount of time behind bars."
Williams is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 20, 2022. and the next court appearance for Lane is scheduled for Jan. 19, 2021. Both cases will be heard in front of Judge John Kinsella.
