2 CPD officers hurt in NW Side crash after squad car swerves to avoid scooter

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two Chicago Police Officers were injured in a crash Monday night as they were responding to a call in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood.

The officers were in a marked car with lights and siren activated, according to a statement from the department. It was about 7 p.m.

They were driving northbound on the 2300 block of North Laramie at Belden when two people on a scooter, according to police, failed to yield.

The squad car swerved to avoid them and hit a parked car. Both the squad and that car caught fire.

Police said two other parked vehicles were damaged.

The officers were taken to a hospital in fair condition. The people on the scooter ran from the scene.
