HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two men were found dead following a house fire in the North Shore. An autopsy conducted found they both died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The men have been identified as 63-year-old Marc Austwick, of Lake Forest, and 60-year-old John Austwick, of Mundelein.
Their deaths are under investigation. Officials report that there is no known threat to the community because the incident appears to be isolated.
First responders arrived at around 3:50 a.m. to home off the road in the 1700 block of Park Avenue West after a call of flames coming from the roof.
The battalion chief elevated the fire’s response, resulting in the arrival of eight other neighboring fire departments.
After finding the victims, crews soon set up a water line and began extinguishing the flames.
Firefighters were able to then enter the house through its exterior windows and conducted a search for additional victims. No one else was found.
By the morning, the fire was eventually put out.
The City said the fire department along with the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the cause of the fire.
