(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two more Democrats from Illinois’ Congressional delegation are calling on President Joe Biden to step aside in the upcoming presidential race.

Hours before President Biden held a rare press conference, Congressman Brad Schneider encouraged Biden to pass the torch.

After the press conference, the North Shore Democrat told CNN he thought the president handled himself well, but it wasn’t enough.

“We can’t have a situation where every day we’re holding our breath, whether it’s a press conference, debate or rally, and I think we're at an historic moment where the president can pass the torch to the next generation,” Schneider said.

Schneider wants that transition before the DNC Convention in Chicago next month. He said constituents reaching out to his north suburban office are about thirty-to-one in favor of President Biden stepping aside for someone else on the party’s wide bench.

“From Vice President Harris, we’ve got governors across the country who have demonstrated records, significant accomplishments in their states as executives,” said Schneider. “We’ve got people in the cabinet, people at the House.”

Congressman Eric Sorenson, who represents northwestern and western Illinois tweeted he’s hopeful the president will step aside.

They join Representative Mike Quigley, who made that call last week.
